I highly recommend the Mindful Gardener for your landscape design. Maggie created a wonderful design for my entire property, and was able to incorporate all of the plants and elements I wanted. Knowing that part of the plan was to replace a lot of broken driveway, Maggie’s plan included reusing the concrete for paths and walls. The plan also included retaining some mature foundation plants in front of one of the houses. The plants have only been in for 6 months, but it’s already looking wonderful. In a year or so it will be unbelievable! I’m using much less water, and attracting birds and butterflies. - Lori B, Craftsman Heights

Maggie was excellent to work with and I am extremely happy with the plans she created for me (they actually look so nice I plan on framing them). Before I met her I was a bit paralyzed by indecision, but after explaining to her my general intent, she came up with a beautiful plan for my yard and I am happily executing on the plans bit by bit (you can also take the plans to a contractor who can take care of everything for you). To describe the process, we spoke over the phone so I could explain to her what I was looking for (a design for my blank-canvas backyard of about 3,000 square feet). She then came over, measured and photographed the yard, did some tests with the soil, did an an analysis of how much sun each area receives, then created the plan. She also provided an information booklet with all the plants in the plan, with photos and helpful information (e.g. watering needs). My front yard is a lawn at the moment and if I every decide to change that I will be calling Maggie again. - Peter K., Winnetka

Until I met Maggie, I was searching the web and local gardens (ie Huntington, Arboretum) for similar plants. Maggie provided me with a complete list of my plants and how to take care of them depending on water needs. . She also provided me with suggestions on new plants and ground coverings. Since I love plants and nature, this was an incredible wealth of resources for me. And now I have a guide that helps me take good care of my old as well as new plants. You listened to my needs (low maintenance, low water) and are very thorough in the information you provide to help me make informed decisions about which plants to use in my yard. I think to jump into a landscaping project without consulting a landscape designer first is a mistake many people make. It may seem like an additional expense, but is really the best investment one can make to ensure they have a garden that they will enjoy for years to come. This is true especially for those who don't know much about plants (like me). I thought your fees are quite reasonable. We wanted to formally thank you for the terrific landscape design that you developed for our hillsides. We have been challenged in making our hillsides look good while also being drought tolerant. We had tried certain California Native plants, but failed. You solved our challenge. You quickly studied our property, conducted specific soil tests, and recommended a specific Purple Sage cultivar that is growing quickly and looks great. We specifically appreciated your recommendation for mulch – a specific type for the hillsides and a lower-cost type for other flat areas of our landscaping. Maggie has a great eye for beautiful plants and vast knowledge of native California drought tolerant species. We removed all the grass from the front yard, and Maggie came up with a beautiful design involving some flagstone paths and a large variety of sages and flowering plants. She also designed small succulent gardens (I LOVE THESE!) to flank the steps leading to the backyard! We replaced the backyard grass with a more drought tolerant species, so that the kids would still have a yard to play in. - Marie C., Pasadena
